Biography
Robert Skalik (MD, PhD) consultant in cardiology, exercise physiologist. He completed his PhD in echocardiography from Department of Cardiac Surgery, Medical University of Wrocław, Poland. In 1996, he covered three month internship in Department of Cardiology, Free University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands (European Commission Scholarship -Tempus program). After postgraduate internship, he started working as a physician in Department of Internal Medicine in Municipal Hospital in Wrocław, Poland. Since 1998, he has been working at the Medical University of Wrocław as a cardiologist, academic teacher and researcher in the field of cardiovascular physiology (Faculty of Medicine). From 1998 to 2007 he worked as a specialist in internal medicine and consultant in cardiology in Department of Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology, Medical University of Wrocław, Poland. In 2002, he was a lecturer in Postgraduate School of Cardiology, University of Perugia, Italy (Erasmus Program). From 2010 to 2012 Head of Cardiac Rehabilitation Department in Wrocław Municipal Health Centre. At present, he is an academic teacher and researcher in Department of Physiology, Medical University of Wrocław (2008-2013 - Head of Exercise Physiology Laboratory of the Department) and consultant in cardiology for outpatient clinics in Wrocław, Regional General Hospital (Krotoszyn) and Specialist Hospital “Ventriculus†with Outpatient Clinics (Leszno) in Province of Wielkopolska, Poland. He specializes in clinical and sport cardiology with special focus on echocardiography (TTE and TEE). Robert Skalik is a research projects evaluator for European Commission, member of Editorial Boards of international medical journals, reviewer for journals: International Journal of Cardiology, International Cardiovascular Forum Journal, Expert Review of Cardiovascular Therapy. He is a member of European Society of Cardiology, Working Group on Myocardial Function, ESC Council on Stroke. He is an expert for E-journal of Cardiology Practice released by European Society of Cardiology (two invited articles- 2014 and 2017). In 2017, he became an invited Overseas Fellow of Royal Society of Medicine, London, Great Britain ( personal invitation from Honorary Secretary of RSM). He is an author and co-author of 108 papers on cardiology and human physiology in local and international medical journals (Herz, Polish Heart Journal, International Journal of Cardiology, Biology of Sport) and one monograph on exercise physiology.
